Take Your Car On A Train To Orlando - The Amtrak Auto Train

Are you heading to sunny Florida for that long anticipated vacation? Are you considering the drive on I-95? What if I told you there is a better way?! Did you know there is an Amtrak train that operates between Lorton Virginia and Sanford Florida? Lorton is very close to Washington DC and Sanford is only an hour from Orlando! Did I mention you can take your vehicle with you?

The entire process is super easy and much less stressful than the whole airport experience. You simply pack your car with all of your vacay essentials, set aside an overnight bag with pj's, medications, a few snacks, charging necessities and any entertainment for your train journey. Arrive at the station prior to 2:00pm and receive your vehicle number (take a pic of it with your phone in case you misplace it as you will need it to claim your vehicle tomorrow). Check in at the station desk and choose your dinner time if you will be in sleeper accommodations. Board your train around 3:30pm. Depart the station around 5:00pm. Enjoy your dinner and wind down before falling into your first day of vacay slumber. When you wake up, a continental breakfast will be waiting to start your day!

The train will chug into the station around 10:00Am and begin to offload vehicles shortly after arrival. Once they call your vehicle number and you load your family and luggage, you will be on your way!
